Generator rewind bid date firmed for U.S. 810-MW Lower Granite

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has extended the due date for bids to rewind main generator Unit 3 at the 810-MW Lower Granite hydroelectric project on the Snake River in Washington. Bids now are due April 30.

The Corps previously estimated bids would be due about April 6 and March 16. (HydroWorld 2/19/10) The Corps’ Walla Walla District also plans to take bids in May for replacement gantry cranes at Lower Granite and the 810-MW Lower Monumental project. (HydroWorld 4/5/10)

The current solicitation includes installation of a government-furnished stator winding on Unit 3, a Westinghouse generator rated at 143,105 kilovolt-amperes. Work includes disassembly of the generator, removal of rotor, cleaning, testing, pole repair and painting, old winding removal, stator core inspection, installation of new winding and testing, reassembly and commissioning. Additional optional work items might be ordered as they are encountered during the work.

The work, which is to be performed between July and December 2010, is estimated to cost between $5 million and $10 million.
