Georgia firm seeks interest in building 42-MW Mtkvari

Georgia developer Mtkvari HPP LLC invites expressions of interest for participation in construction of the 38- to 42-MW Mtkvari hydroelectric project on Georgia’s Mtkvari River. Responses are due July 23, 2009.

Mtkvari, previously listed at 28 MW, was among 78 projects that the Georgia Ministry of Energy proposed to investors in 2008 on a build-own-operate basis. (HydroWorld 7/10/08) Mtkvari HPP, a subsidiary of JSC Caucasus Energy and Infrastructure, proposes beginning construction in September in Samtskhe-Javakheti Region.

The project is to include a 9.5-kilometer diversion tunnel; 80-meter tailrace tunnel; 35-meter-tall, 70-meter-long dam; and a powerhouse containing two turbine-generators.
