Mozambique seeks design, supervision of Corumana Dam expansion

MAPUTO, Mozambique 3/19/12 (PennWell) — Mozambique invites expressions of interest from consultants to perform design and supervision, and environmental and social service work for completion of Corumana Dam on the Sabie River. Responses to two solicitations are due March 29.

Mozambique’s national water directorate recruited consultants in 2008 for its National Water Resources Development Project. The program includes completion of Corumana Dam, construction of three small dams, and preparation of future investments in Pavua Dam on the Pungue River and the Moamba Major Dam, which is expected to include a hydro project, on the Incomati River.

Work on Corumana Dam is to include increasing the height of the dam to 117 meters from 110 meters, installing crest spillway gates, and a fuse plug.

In one solicitation (TA-15), the water directorate, Direccao Nacional de Aguas (DNA), invites expressions of interest from consultants to prepare detailed designs and tender documents, supervise all construction and rehabilitation work, monitor the work, and commission the improvements. Responses are due March 29.

In a second solicitation (TA-16), DNA invites expressions of interest from consultants to provide technical assistance in implementation of an environmental management plan and a resettlement action plan for the Corumana Dam project. Responses are due March 29.
