Nicaragua seeks consultants to advance five small hydro projects

MANAGUA, Nicaragua 2/8/12 (PennWell) — Nicaragua’s electric utility invites expressions of interest from consultants to design and prepare tender documents for construction of five small hydropower projects in Nicaragua’s Region Autonoma del Atlantico Norte. Responses are due February 15.

The government received funding for the projects from the Inter-American Development Bank to develop a national program for sustainable electrification and renewable energy. Under a separate program to advance off-grid hydropower, the government last year named firms to build the 1.548-MW Wiwili project, but canceled a tender to build four micro-hydropower projects in Region Autonoma del Atlantico Sur.

In the current solicitation, utility Empresa Nicaraguense de Electricidad invites expressions of interest from consultants to prepare detailed design, construction drawings, and tender documents for five small hydro projects in the towns of Rosita and Bonanza in Region Autonoma del Atlantico Norte.

Expressions of interest, and qualifications, in Spanish are due to the address below on paper or by e-mail by February 15.
