Rehab consultants sought for Georgia’s 1,250-MW Enguri, 245-MW Vardnili

The government of Georgia invites expressions of interest from consultants to serve as project and finance manager, electro-mechanical expert, and civil engineering expert for rehabilitation of 1,250-MW Enguri Dam and the 245-MW Vardnili hydropower cascade on Georgia’s Enguri River. Responses are due June 11.

Project operator Engurhesi Ltd. has been carrying out rehabilitation of Enguri Dam for several years with funding from several international lenders. (HydroWorld 4/30/10) It said the initial stage of work under the Enguri hydropower plant rehabilitation program is complete. (HydroWorld 12/7/07)

In addition to further work on Enguri, the government plans to seek bids for rehabilitation of the four-plant Vardnili cascade, including upgrading the 125-MW Vardnili 1 project to 210 MW. Hydro-mechanical and preparatory work also was planned for the Vardnili 2, 3, and 4 plants of 40 MW each. (HydroWorld 8/5/08)

Engurhesi currently seeks expressions of interest from consultants for three tasks:
o Project and Finance Manager in charge of Project Implementation Unit operations such as financing, budget preparation, and contracts implementation;
o Electro-mechanical Expert in charge of Enguri hydropower units rehabilitation and other electro-mechanical aspects including drafting of tender documents, procurement, and contract implementation;
o Civil Engineering Expert in charge of all civil engineering aspects of the Enguri project and Vardnili cascade projects including drafting of tender documents, procurement, and contract implementation.

Expressions of interest and qualifications, in English and Georgian, are due by noon, Tbilisi time, June 11 by e-mail to both addresses below. Responses should be labeled “Expression of Interest for Project Management Support Enguri Hydropower Plant and Vardnili Cascade Rehabilitation.”
