Romania sets new bid date to equip 55-MW Surduc Nehoiasu

BUCHAREST, Romania 6/12/12 (PennWell) — Romania utility Hidroelectrica SA has extended the deadline for bids to supply mechanical and electrical equipment for the 55-MW Surduc Nehoiasu hydroelectric project on the Basca Mare River in Romania. Bids now are due July 20.

Hidroelectrica, operator of 276 hydroelectric projects totaling 6,374 MW, previously called for bids by June 6. The utility issued a similar request for equipment for the project in 2010.

Surduc Nehoiasu is part of a 400-MW Siriu-Surduc-Nehoiasu hydroelectric development originally planned by Hidroelectrica on Buzau River and its tributaries, but stalled by political and economic circumstances. Based on an optimization study, Surduc Nehoiasu was scaled down from 155 MW to 55 MW.

Hidroelectrica now seeks bids for four lots of mechanical and electrical equipment for what it called Stage 1, of 55 MW, at Surduc Nehoiasu valued at 90 million leu (US$26.8 million). Equipment is to be supplied for the dam, pressure node, hydroelectric plant, and substation.

The deadline for obtaining tender documents, from the address below, also was extended until 9 a.m. July 10. Bids, in Romanian, now are due to the address below by 9:30 a.m. July 20.
