Switchyard relays, communication system sought for 6,809-MW Grand Coulee

The Bureau of Reclamation plans to take bids for replacement of switchyard relays and installation of a communication system for the Third Power Plant at the 6,809-MW Grand Coulee hydroelectric project. A solicitation is expected to be issued in early October.

Reclamation already is taking bids in October and November for overhaul of three generating units and for crane control modifications in the Third Power Plant.

The agency plans to take bids for a construction contract to update the existing relays protecting Third Power Plant circuits and the tie to the 230-kilovolt switchyard. Principal components of the work including replacing seven sets of 500-kV relays, furnishing and installing a fiber-optic communication system for the relays, and furnishing and installing a 10-foot by 12-foot control building.

The work is expected to cost between $1 million and $5 million.

A pre-solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. R11PS10002 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box. Prospective contractors must register in the government’s Central Contractor Registration database, www.ccr.gov.
