Switchyard upgrade bidding extended at U.S. 517.8-MW Garrison

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has extended the deadline for bids to upgrade the switchyard of the 517.8-MW Garrison Dam project on the Missouri River in Garrison, N.D. Bids now are due Aug. 12.

The Corps’ Omaha District previously called for bids by Aug. 2 and took expressions of interest in May from firms capable of performing the work. The Corps awarded a $3.89 million contract in 2010 to Koontz Electric Co. Inc. for rehabilitation of station service at Garrison.

Although the Corps originally sought information on small businesses capable of performing the switchyard upgrade, the current solicitation is open to both large and small businesses.

Work is to include rebuilding a 230/115-kilovolt switchyard including new transformers, breakers, and disconnect switches on a site adjacent to the Garrison hydropower plant. The work is valued at between $10 million and $15 million.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering solicitation No. W9128F11R0044 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box.

Bids now are due Aug. 12. For information, contact Scott D. Hurst, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Contracting Division – CECT-NWO-C, 1616 Capital Ave., Omaha, NE 68102-4901; (1) 402-995-2075; E-mail: scott.d.hurst@usace.army.mil.
