Turbine replacements sought by U.S. for 66.8-MW Fremont Canyon

The Bureau of Reclamation seeks bids to supply two replacement turbine runners for the 66.8-MW Fremont Canyon hydroelectric project on the North Platte River in Wyoming. Bids are due Jan. 11, 2011.

Fremont Canyon and the 38-MW Glendo project form the Glendo Unit of the Pick-Sloan Missouri Basin Project. Reclamation’s Great Plains Regional Office recently awarded Montana-based Johnson Wilson Constructors Inc. a $16.7 million contract to modify Glendo Dam.

Reclamation seeks replacement of Unit 1 and 2 turbine runners at Fremont Canyon, including cones, coupling bolts, wear rings, and shear pins. Work includes prototype performance design with complete computational fluid dynamic design of two stainless steel vertical Francis turbine runners. Installation is not included in the solicitation.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. R10PS60328 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box. A site visit is scheduled Dec. 15.
