U.S. seeks generator rewind for 810-MW Lower Granite

The Corps of Engineers plans to seek bids to rewind main generator Unit 3 at the 810-MW Lower Granite hydroelectric project on the Snake River in Washington. Bids are to be due about March 16, 2010.

The Corps’ Walla Walla District took bids in September 2009 to supply vertical turbine pumps for the project. (HydroWorld 9/11/09)

The current solicitation is to include installation of a government-furnished stator winding on Unit 3, a Westinghouse generator rated at 143,105 kilovolt-amperes. Work includes disassembly of the generator, removal of rotor, cleaning, testing, pole repair and painting, old winding removal, stator core inspection, installation of new winding and testing, reassembly and commissioning. Additional optional work items might be ordered as they are encountered during the work.

The work, which is to be performed between July and December 2010, is estimated to cost between $5 million and $10 million.

A pre-solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W912EF10R0014 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box.

A solicitation notice is expected to be issued about Feb. 4, with proposals to be due no sooner than 30 calendar days after the solicitation issuance. The listed March 16 due date is an estimate.
