U.S. to seek drum gate refurbishment at 6,809-MW Grand Coulee

GRAND COULEE, Wash., U.S. 3/30/12 (PennWell) — The Bureau of Reclamation plans to take bids to blast, clean, prepare surface, and recoat 11 drum gates and pier plates at the 6,809-MW Grand Coulee hydroelectric project. Registration for an April 23 site visit must be submitted by April 9.

Reclamation also seeks bids April 11 to replace switchyard relays and install a communication system for the Third Power Plant at Grand Coulee on the Columbia River in Washington.

The agency said it expects to issue a solicitation about July 1 to small businesses to blast, clean, prepare approved surface profiles, and use approved coatings on corroded interior areas and all exterior areas of 11 135-foot by 28-foot drum gates and pier plates. The schedule might require two to three gates to be worked on per year from March to June for a maximum of five years beginning in 2013.

A site visit is scheduled April 23 prior to issuance of a solicitation.
