ACS wins contract for Ontario’s 19-MW White River hydropower project

Spain’s Actividades de Construccion y Servicios (ACS) has been selected to construct the 19-MW White River hydropower project in northern Ontario, the company’s Canadian unit said.

White River includes two small hydro plants, which will be located about six miles apart. The upper powerhouse will be called Gitchi Animiki Bezhig, and the lower Gitchi Animki Nilzh.

ACS Dragados Canada said the US$102 million contract includes the construction of the two powerhouses, dams and related infrastructure.

The project is being developed by Manulife Financial subsidiary Regional Power, in partnership with the Pic Mobert First Nation.

Work on the project is expected to be completed within 20 months, the company said.
