Afghans seek turbine-generator rehabilitation at 100-MW Naghlu hydro project

Afghanistan national utility Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) seeks bids for turbine-generator rehabilitation at the 100-MW Naghlu hydroelectric project on Afghanistan’s Kabul River. A pre-bid meeting is set March 25 with bids due April 15.

DABS recruited consultants in January to monitor and supervise the turbine-generator rehabilitation work. t also took bids in January to supply spare parts and consumables for Naghlu’s rehabilitation. he utility recruited consultants last year to provide operations and maintenance training for Naghlu staff.

Since 2006, the World Bank has been financing the rehabilitation of electrical and electro-mechanical parts of the Naghlu project, which was built with help from the Soviet Union in the 1960s.

DABS now seeks bids for rehabilitation of Unit 1, overhaul of Unit 3 and procurement of spare parts to support regular maintenance of Naghlu’s generating equipment for at least five years. The work is expected to require 270 days.
