Alstom to rehab generator at Iceland’s 27-MW Steingrimsstod

Iceland utility Landsvirkjun has awarded a contract to Alstom Hydro Sweden AB for refurbishment of a generator at the 27-MW Steingrimsstod hydroelectric project.

Alstom is to design, manufacture, test, supervise installation, and commission the stator core, stator windings, and field windings for refurbishment of one 16.5-megavolt-ampere generator. One of five bidders, Alstom had bid 8.019 million kronor (US$1.097 million) for the work (HNN 9/26/06)

Steingrimsstod began operation in 1959 on the Upper Sog River, where it drains Lake Thingvallavatn into Lake Ulfljotsvatn. It has two turbine-generators of 13.5-MW each.
