Hydroelectric power equipment manufacturer AFI Hydro Inc. has been purchased by global supplier Andritz Hydro, forming a new company, Andritz Hydro AFI Inc.

AFI Hydro — which specializes in the design, fabrication and installation of gates and control structures for hydropower facilities — entered receivership on February 24.

Andritz said the operation will complement its existing Andritz Hydro Canada business while expanding the number of services it can offer.

“We are very pleased to add this local capability for design and supply of hydraulic gates and look forward to offering this additional resource to our customers,” president of Andritz Hydro AFI Timothy Ryan said.

The group will remain based in Paris, Ontario, and will be restarted with 50 employees. Andritz said AFI Hydro’s original president, Dave Ballantyne, will continue as senior vice president involved in sales.
