Argentina seeks small hydropower study of sites in Mendoza Province

Argentina’s federal planning ministry seeks bids to survey and update studies of small hydropower sites in Mendoza Province. Expressions of interest are due January 23 with bids due February 18.

Argentina’s Ministerio de Planification Federal, Inversion Publicas y Servicios also is taking bids February 18 to study a multi-purpose hydropower complex on the Las Canas, Gastona and Medina rivers as well as bids by April 23 to construct the 637-MW Chihuido 1 hydroelectric project.

Argentina’s Mendoza Province is the location of other, larger hydroelectric projects including 443-MW Los Blancos and 90-MW Portezuelo del Viento.

In the current solicitation, the ministry seeks a survey and study update of small hydropower sites of 5 MW or less in Mendoza. The study is to identify existing studies of small hydro projects or sites with hydropower potential that currently are inactive on rivers, streams or irrigation canals. The consultant also is to prioritize the sites and develop basic engineering for the three top sites.

The ministry said prospective bidders must obtain documentation from the address below and express their interest within 15 days of the January 8 announcement of the solicitation, by January 23.
