Armenia seeks bids to refurbish Kechut Dam

The government of Armenia seeks bids by August 25 for rehabilitation of Kechut Dam, construction of a new spillway, and installation of dam safety measures. A pre-bid meeting is scheduled August 4.

The dam safety work is part of a World Bank-funded program of rehabilitation and monitoring of numerous dams in Armenia.

The Institute of Water Problems and Hydraulic Engineering CJSCo. received a contract worth 44.8 million drams (US$101,900) in 2005 for preparation of design and construction supervision of civil works for rehabilitation of dam structures and a new spillway for Kechut Dam.

Armenia’s Water Sector Development and Institutional Improvement Project Implementation Unit said work at Kechut Dam includes escavation and demolition; foundation and building construction; concrete, reinforced concrete, shotcrete, walls; steel structures and pipes; drilling and grouting; roofs, openings and floors; painting, waterproofing, and joints; electro-technical works; instruments to observe dam condition; and works and instrumentation for ensuring emergency actions in case of dam failure.
