Austria’s Kaprun Hauptstufe hydroelectric plant receives Alstom upgrades

Austrian utility Verbund Hydro Power AG has selected Alstom to renovate two generators in its Kaprun Hauptstufe hydroelectric plant.

The project will not only extend the service life of Kaprun’s M3 and M4 generator units, but also increase the plant’s maximum output capacity from its current 240 MW to 270 MW.

“The key factors in being granted this order was our modern and proven technology as well as our outstanding global references,” said Alstom Austria GmbH customer service manager Otto Reinberger.

HydroWorld.com reported in 2006 that Verbund was seeking applications to supply a spare Pelton turbine for the project.
