Bhutan firm seeks diversion channels for 336-MW Chhukha

Chhukha Hydro Power Corp. (CHPC) seeks applications for pre-qualification to construct two diversion channels for the 336-MW Chhukha hydroelectric project on Bhutan’s Wangchu River. Responses are due October 23.

The developer plans to add the channels to Chhukha, also spelled Chukha, to carry additional water from the Tichalumchhu and Lubichhu streams during dry periods.

Work includes access roads, intake weirs, conduits of steel pipe and tunnel, outfalls, gates, valves, and trashracks, plus a desilting chamber for the Lubichhu diversion.

Pre-qualification is open to bidders in India and Bhutan. Chhukha is one of several Bhutan hydropower developments carried out with Indian funding and technical support. (HNN 8/1/06)

Pre-qualification documents may be obtained from the address below until October 5 for 2,000 rupees or ngultrums (US$44) by bank draft, banker’s check, or pay order to Chhukha Hydro Power Corp. at Bank of Bhutan, Tsimasham, Bhutan.
