Bhutan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs invites expressions of interest in performing pre-feasibility studies of three hydropower project sites in Bhutan. Responses are due January 17.
A Worldwatch Institute study shows 90 percent of Bhutan’s electrical supply comes from hydroelectric sources. In 2012, Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corp. agreed with India’s Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam to develop the 600-MW Kholongchu and 570-MW Wangchu hydropower plants. It also joined Alstom that year to establish a new hydropower service center in Bhutan.
With funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) the Ministry of Economic Affairs now seeks expressions of interest by January 17 from consultants to conduct pre-feasibility studies of three hydropower sites, to prepare guidelines and bidding documents, and to implement a bidding process for development of the three projects by independent power producers and public-private partnerships. With a budget of US$2 million, the work is to require 24 person-months.
The Ministry of Economic affairs also seeks expressions of interest by January 17 from consultants to develop renewable energy guidelines and regulations, including resource mapping and a renewable energy master plan. With a budget of US$1.36 million, the work is to require 24 months.
The ministry also seeks expressions of interest by January 17 from consultants to develop measurement, reporting and verification and national registry systems for clean energy development. With a budget of US$250,000, the work is to require 12 months.
