Bolivia extends bidding for construction at 80-MW Misicuni

COCHABAMBA, Bolivia 6/5/12 (PennWell) — Bolivia utility Empresa Nacional de Electricidad (ENDE) has extended the deadline for bids for surface construction at the 80-MW Misicuni multi-purpose hydroelectric project on Bolivia’s Misicuni River. Bids now are due June 20.

ENDE previously called for bids May 21 for the work, initially identified as a second underground construction contract. The utility took bids in April for underground construction work at Misicuni. It also took bids in March for hydro plant construction supervision and for a penstock and steel surge shaft liner for the project.

The multi-purpose project, already under way, includes Misicuni Dam and a diversion tunnel, which is to deliver water from the Misicuni River through mountains to the Cochabamba Valley for Cochabamba municipal water supply and irrigation of 15,000 acres.

In the current solicitation, ENDE seeks bids for construction of surface works of the power project including: a penstock platform, construction of additional supports and anchors to support the penstock over 3,500 meters; a powerhouse with space for three turbine-generators allowing eventual expansion to 120 MW; substation civil works; reregulating dam; spillway, bottom outlet, bypass, intake, valve housings; overhead cranes and hoists; and power supply line and fiber-optic cable.

The work is to require 25 months at an estimated cost of US$35 million.
