Bolivia seeks underground construction for 80-MW Misicuni

COCHABAMBA, Bolivia 3/9/12 (PennWell) — Bolivia utility Empresa Nacional de Electricidad (ENDE) seeks bids for underground construction work at the 80-MW Misicuni multi-purpose hydroelectric project on Bolivia’s Misicuni River. Bids are due April 21.

ENDE already seeks bids by March 20 to supply a penstock and steel surge shaft liner for Misicuni. The multi-purpose project, already under way, includes Misicuni Dam and a diversion tunnel, which is to deliver water from the Misicuni River through mountains to the Cochabamba Valley for Cochabamba municipal water supply and irrigation of 15,000 acres.

In the current solicitation, ENDE seeks bids for construction of underground works of the power project including: a tunnel extension of 706 meters; construction of supports and anchors to support the penstock over 1,428 meters; a transition pressure pipe of 3 meters; a 150-meter surge shaft; civil works of the valve chamber; and construction of an exit portal.

The work is to require 19 months at an estimated cost of US$6.9 million.

ENDE extends bidding to supervise building Misicuni hydro plant

ENDE also extended to March 27 the deadline for bids to supervise construction of the Misicuni hydroelectric plant. The utility previously called for bids by March 12.

ENDE seeks bids for supervision and design of civil works and the coordination of contracts for construction and supply of equipment. The Misicuni hydro plant includes a tunnel extension, tunnel liner, safety valve, penstock, powerhouse with two 40-MW Pelton turbines, and a re-regulation reservoir.
