Bosnia seeks engineer to supervise construction of 20-MW Vranduk hydropower project

Utility Elektroprivreda of Bosnia and Herzegovina invites expressions of interest from consulting engineers to review documentation and supervise construction of the 20-MW Vranduk hydroelectric project in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Responses are due January 29.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development approved a US$46.4 million loan in 2013 for construction of Vranduk on the Bosna River, refurbishment of the 9.4-MW Una Kostela hydroelectric project, and construction of the 6.4-MW Una Kostela Annex on the Una River. The European Investment Bank also approved a US$52 million loan for Vranduk.

Elektroprivreda pre-qualified seven groups in September to bid for construction of Vranduk, which is expected to begin in March. The utility hired Studio Pietrangeli of Italy as consultant to assist in procurement and project management of Vranduk.

Elektroprivreda now seeks expressions of interest from engineering consultants for review, approval and revision of documentation prepared by the contractor and to supervise construction of Vranduk. The run-of-river project is to include a dam, fish ladder, intake, power tunnel, a small Kaplan turbine at the dam for ecological flows and two Kaplans in a main powerhouse, a 6-kilometer-long reservoir, tailrace, deepening of the riverbed downstream and access roads.

Consultants must obtain licenses prior to contract award from the Ministry of Physical Planning, www.fmpu.gov.ba; Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry, www.fmpvs.gov.ba; and Ministry of Energy Mining and Industry, www.fmeri.gov.ba.

Expressions of interest, in three hard copies and one copy on CD-ROM, in English, are to be submitted to the address below, labeled “Expression of Interest for HPP Vranduk Project: Consulting services for review and approval of project documentation and supervision of works of construction of HPP Vranduk — Yellow FIDIC based Engineer.”

Responses are due by 2 p.m. January 29.
