Brazil firm supplies polyester pipe for small hydro conduit

Brazil manufacturer Amitech announced it has supplied 1,128 meters of fiberglass-reinforced polyester pipe to two small hydroelectric projects in Brazil’s Mato Grosso State.

Amitech, a subsidiary of Inversiones Mundial of Colombia and Amiantit of Saudia Arabia, said the US$750,000 contract is to provide pressure conduit for the Pequi and Sucupira small hydro plants being built in Jaciara. Pipe diameters are to range from 1,900 millimeters to 2,200 mm.

An Amitech spokesman said the manufacturer won the contract in competition with steel pipe makers. The pipe is to be delivered in September.

Amitech previously supplied such pipe to the Coronel Araujo and Contestado projects in Santa Catarina State.
