Brazil state seeks two basin water resource plans

Brazil’s Bahia State invites expressions of interest from consultants to prepare water resource plans for the Verde and Jacare River Basin and for the Itapicuru River Basin in Bahia. Responses to two solicitations are due March 14.

Bahia received a World Bank loan for the Integrated Health and Water Management Program in Bahia (SWAp-BAHIA). Bahia was among states that recruited consultants with the Brazilian government for a giant federal water resources management program. It also recruited consultants to design Catole Dam under that program. An existing water supply dam was the site for construction of the 160-MW Pedra do Cavalo hydro project in Bahia.

Under the SWAp-BAHIA program, Bahia now seeks consultants to develop water resource plans and proposals for water bodies’ classification in the two basins. The projects are to ensure multiple and rational use of water, biodiversity protection, shared and integrated management of water resources, definition of water quality parameters for the basins, and articulation of state water policy.

Consultants may submit expressions for the two separate solicitations, one for the basin of the Verde and Jacare rivers, and the other for the Itapicuru River Basin.

Expressions of interest and qualifications are to be delivered or mailed by March 14 to the address below.
