Brazil utility seeks partners to study, license two hydros

Brazil utility Centrais Eletricas do Norte do Brasil S.A. (Eletronorte) invites applications from private partners to develop feasibility studies and environmental licenses for two hydro projects totaling 287 MW. Responses are due May 30.

Eletronorte plans to develop the 134-MW Cachoeira do Caldeirao and 153-MW Ferreira Gomes projects on the Araguari River in Amapa State. Cachoeira do Caldeirao, located at the towns of Ferreira Gomes and Porto Grande, is to generate 85.81 average MW, while the Ferreira Gomes project, in the town of the same name, is to generate 96.49 average MW.

Eletronorte plans to register prospective partners, who then will be reviewed by a company work group for recommendations to company officials who will choose partners.
