Bridge, gantry crane upgrade contract awarded for Folsom Dam hydro project

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has awarded Crane America Services Inc. a $1.5 million contract for control upgrade and modernization of bridge and gantry cranes at the 198.72-MW Folsom Dam hydro project on California’s American River.

Reclamation seeks replacement or refurbishment of components of a 275-ton-capacity bridge crane and a 140-ton-capacity gantry crane.

Reclamation awarded a $16.6 million contract in April to Kiewit Pacific Co. for modification of spillway piers and gates of Folsom Dam to resist seismic loadings. That funding came from stimulus money in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to address dam safety concerns at the high-risk dam.
