Cameroon seeks construction supervision, grid plan for 30-MW Lom Pangar

YAOUNDE, Cameroon 7/9/12 (PennWell) — Cameroon utility Electricity Development Corp. (EDC) invites expressions of interest from consultants to supervise construction of the 30-MW Lom Pangar hydroelectric project on the Sanaga River and to develop a transmission grid plan for Cameroon. Responses are due July 27.

EDC recruited consultants in June to serve as deputy director to help manage construction of Lom Pangar, which previously had been estimated at 56 MW. EDC has hired China International Water and Electric Corp. to complete construction of Lom Pangar and commissioned Coyne et Bellier to oversee the work.

In the latest solicitation, the utility seeks a consulting engineer to supervise construction of a 30-MW hydro plant at the foot of Lom Pangar Dam, a 305-kilometer 90-kilovolt transmission line, and distribution networks for electrification of 150 villages in Cameroon’s eastern region. The consultant also is to develop a blueprint for a power transmission network in Cameroon.

The construction supervision is to require 48 months and the grid plan 10 months of work to be performed concurrently.

Expressions of interest and qualifications are due by noon July 27 to Electricity Development Corp., Immeuble Hibiscus, Hippodrome, Attn: du Directeur General, B.P. 15111, Yaounde, Cameroon; (237) 22-231089; Fax: (237) 22-231113;.
