Cameroon seeks environmental, social oversight for energy projects

The government of Cameroon plans to seek consultants to support environmental and social oversight of large projects under its energy sector.

The government recently announced plans to seek bids for consulting work and construction under an energy sector development project that includes the 56-MW Lom Pangar Dam and other hydropower projects. (HNN 8/4/08)

Now it says it will seek reinforcement of the environment ministry, Ministere de l’Environnement et de la Protection de la Nature, in the management of environmental and social obligations of large energy projects. Consultant work is to include supporting the division of environment of the Ministere d l’Energie et de l’Eau to ensure environmental and social programs meet international standards.
