Cavico unit wins civil contract for Vietnam’s 60-MW Ta Thang

Vietnam hydro project builder Cavico Corp. announced a newly formed subsidiary received a US$36.6 million contract to build a tunnel, dam, and access road for the 60-MW Ta Thang hydroelectric project in Vietnam’s Lao Cai Province.

The winning unit, Vietravico Joint Stock Co., is a partnership of Cavico and Vietracimex, a state-owned construction company. Cavico said September 18 that Vietracimex, which is operated by the Vietnam Ministry of Transportation, is the investor for the US$77.5 million Ta Thang.

Work is to begin at the site near Bao Thang in early 2008. Completion is expected in 42 months.
