Chile utilities advance 530-MW Alto Maipo

Power company AES Gener and water utility Aguas Andinas submitted plans to Chilean regulators in June for the 530-MW Alto Maipo hydroelectric project in the Maipo River Basin.

As carried by Business News Americas, newspaper Diario Financiero reported the companies presented the project to Comision Nacional de Energia and are expected to submit environmental impact studies in the coming weeks.

To be built in Chile’s Metropolitan Region, Alto Maipo is to include two run-of-river plants on the Maipo and Colorado rivers. The project is to begin operation in 2012.
