China seeks pre-qualifiers to build 117-MW Shihutang

Developers of the Jiangxi Shihutang Navigation and Hydropower Complex invite applications for pre-qualification for civil construction and equipment of the 117-MW Shihutang hydro plant and navigation lock on the Gan River. Responses are due August 7.

The government of China has applied to the World Bank for US$100 million in funding for the complex. (HNN 7/27/07) The project objective is to enhance the standard of living in the Gan River region by developing waterway transport and providing environmentally friendly energy.

On behalf of the employer, Shihutang Navigation and Hydropower Complex Project, the implementing agency, INSTRIMPEX International Tendering Co., seeks to pre-qualify companies for two lots of work.

One lot, W4: Civil works of hydropower station buildings and right side gate dams project, includes diversion works, power plant, sluice gate on the right side, connection embankment on the right side, fishway and road on the right side, dam crest bridge works (part), metal structure manufacture and installation, hoist equipment of gates, and electric equipment installation.

The second lot, W5: Civil works of navigation lock and left side gate dams project, includes diversion works, navigation lock, sluice gate on the left side, connection embankment on the left side, road on the left side, dam crest bridge works (part), metal structure manufacture and installation, hoist equipment of gates, and electric equipment installation.

Applicants must apply for the whole contracts mentioned above separately.

The complex is to include a dam, sluice gates, hydropower plant with six bulb turbine-generators, ship lock, and dam crest access road. The earthen dam will be 559 meters long containing 24 sets of sluice gates. Flood protection works are to include 38 kilometers of dikes, 61 kilometers of diversion canals, six sets of pumping stations with total capacity of 5.5 MW, and two sets of regulating sluices.

Pre-qualification documents may be obtained from the INSTRIMPEX address below for 1,000 renminbi or US$150 for each document, by cash or cashier’s check.

Applications for pre-qualification are due by 10 a.m. August 7 to the Shihutang Navigation and Hydropower Complex Project address below. Invitations to bid are expected to be issued in October.
