Colombia utility plans four hydro projects totaling 1,920 MW

Colombia utility Isagen S.A. plans to develop four hydroelectric projects totaling 1,920 MW from 2010-2015.

Isagen’s 2006 annual report, as carried by Business News Americas, identified the four projects as 800-MW Sogamoso, 660-MW Andaqui, 360-MW Fonce, and 100-MW Miel Alto.

Isagen said it also completed an inventory of hydro sites in eastern Caldas Department of between 10 and 100 MW. It said it selected three projects for development, Miel Alto, La Suecia, and Marquetalia, but did not specify the capacities of the latter two.

Seeking a diversified portfolio, the utility said it also plans to evaluate feasibility of developing coal, natural gas, geothermal, and wind projects.

Isagen’s installed capacity in 2006 totaled 2,132 MW, about 16 percent of Colombia’s total. Five hydro plants supply 1,832 MW, while another 300 MW is supplied by a combined-cycle project.
