Corps again extends bid for crane rehab, painting at Mahoning Creek Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers again extended the deadline for bids to rehabilitate and paint gantry cranes at the Corps’ Mahoning Creek Dam on Mahoning Creek in Armstrong County, Pa. Bids now are due Aug. 21.

The Corps’ Pittsburgh District previously called for bids by Aug. 14 and Aug. 2. The Corps took bids in February to replace and refurbish components of gantry crane controls at the Mahoning Creek flood control dam. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a license in 2011 to Mahoning Creek Hydroelectric Co. LLC for the 6-MW Mahoning Creek project (No. 12555), to be built at the Corps dam.

In a solicitation set aside for small businesses, the Pittsburgh District now seeks bids to rehabilitate and paint crane No. 2, with an option to perform similar work on crane No. 1. The work is valued at $1 million to $5 million.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site,, by entering Solicitation No. W911WN12B0007 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box.
