Corps awards Big Cliff rehab contract to Knight Construction

PORTLAND, Ore. 3/29/12 (PennWell) — Knight Construction and Supply Inc., has been awarded a contract worth US$8.35 million for rehabilitation of three tainter gates at the 20-MW Big Cliff hydropower plant on Oregon’s North Santiam River.

Bids for the project were last solicited by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Portland District in January 2012 and also call for the restoration of the facility’s integrity and reliability in accordance with current codes, design criteria and standards.

As per the contract, Knight Construction is to provide work on the tainter gate girders, strut arms, bracing members, and related structural components. The plant’s trunnion bearings will also be replaced, as will electrical, control and mechanical systems.

Big Cliff is part of the Detroit-Big Cliff project, which also includes the 110-MW Detroit plant.
