Corps awards contract for Bonneville Dam hydro turbine guide bearings

American Babbitt Bearing Inc. has been awarded a contract worth US$479,000 to supply hydro turbine guide bearings for the First Powerhouse at Bonneville Dam.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Portland District most recently solicited bids for the work in February, for two cylindrical fit, shell-type turbine guide bearings with an optional third guide bearing for the Bonneville First Powerhouse. American Babbitt Bearing will furnish all necessary parts including stud bolts, nuts and plugs.

The Corps previously awarded a contract in 2013 to Precision Machine and Supply Inc. to repair the turbine of Main Unit 11 in Bonneville’s Second Powerhouse. It also awarded a contract to Transformer Services Inc. to refurbish step-up transformers at the Second Powerhouse. Bonneville is a turbine design testing site for improvement of fish passage.

Bonneville Dam and the associated 1,076.6 MW hydropower project are located on the Columbia River between Washington and Oregon.
