Corps awards contract for retrofits at Lower Yellowstone Diversion Dam

Kovilic Construction Company Inc. has been awarded a contract worth US$1.68 million for work at the Bureau of Reclamation’s Lower Yellowstone Dam project on the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers in Montana.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers last sought bids for the work in July. The Corps is able to use funding from the Missouri River Recovery and Mitigation program for work at Reclamation projects as per the 2007 Water Resources Development Act.

As per the contract, Kovilic is to retrofit the Lower Yellowstone Diversion Dam’s intake headworks to address frost heave concerns.

The Corps says work on the project is to be completed by Nov. 1, 2012, as sub-slab frost will likely affect the irrigation canal further into the winter.
