Reclamation seeks turbine runners for 2,078-MW Hoover

BOULDER CITY, Nev., U.S. 7/6/12 (PennWell) — The Bureau of Reclamation seeks bids to supply four impulse turbine runners for 2,078-MW Hoover Dam on the Colorado River in Arizona and Nevada. Bids are due Aug. 8.

The bureau previously announced that it expected to issue a solicitation for the equipment about July 1. The agency requested information in February on firms capable of performing the work.

Reclamation awarded a $3.3 million contract in January to Voith Hydro to design, manufacture, and deliver a vertical Francis wide-head-range turbine runner for Hoover’s Unit A8.

Reclamation now seeks bids for computational fluid dynamics, manufacture, and delivery of two runners with associated parts for Hoover’s Arizona Unit A0 and two runners and parts for Hoover Nevada Unit N0. The Pelton units are to have 63-inch pitch diameter and are to include 16 buckets, single-piece, centrifugally cast, and machined by a numerically controlled five-axis or more mill.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. R12PS30124 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box.
