Niger Basin Authority (NBA) seeks bids from consultants to study coordinated management of dams in the Niger River Basin. Bids are due May 17.
NBA, the Autorite du Bassin du Niger, which includes Benin, Guinea, Mali, Niger, and Nigeria, recruited consultants in April to serve on a Panel of Experts for Niger Basin sustainable and joint management. (HydroWorld 4/1/10)
The World Bank’s International Development Association approved a loan to NBA for a program of water resources development and sustainable management of ecosystems in the Niger Basin. Among existing hydro projects in the basin are 760-MW Kainji and 540-MW Jebba. (HydroWorld 7/23/09) Proposed projects include 125-MW Kandadji (HydroWorld 12/16/09) and 20-MW Taoussa. The current solicitation seeks consultants to define rules and modalities of coordinated management of structuring dams in the Niger Basin. One product of the study is to be a legal document of water rules that will be annexed to the basin’s Water Charter.
