Developer revives, extends consultant qualifying for Nepal’s 402-MW Arun 3

India developer Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. (SJVN) has renewed and extended an invitation for pre-qualification by consultants to prepare development of Nepal’s 402-MW Arun 3 hydroelectric project. Responses now are due January 20.

SJVN previously extended the deadline for pre-qualification to September 22, 2008, from the original date of August 29. (HNN 8/29/08)

The government of Nepal awarded a development contract in March 2008 to SJVN, a joint venture of India’s Himachal Pradesh State and India’s federal government to develop Arun 3 on Nepal’s Arun River. (HNN 3/4/08) SJVN is authorized to arrange funding and develop the estimated US$860 million project over five years and to operate it for 30 years on a build-own-operate-transfer basis in Nepal’s Shankhuwasabha District.

SJVN seeks a consultant for preparation and review of a feasibility study report, bankable detailed project report, bid-level drawings, engineering, bill of quantities, bid document, and environmental impact assessment. Work includes associated investigations such as a topographical survey, geological investigation, and geophysical studies. The work is expected to require 24 months.

Pre-qualification documents are available on SJVN’s Internet site, www.sjvn.nic.in, and on http://tenders.gov.in.
