Developer studies 300-MW hydro project in Peru

Kallpa Generacion has completed pre-feasibility studies and is drafting an environmental impact study of a 300-MW hydroelectric project to be developed in Peru.

Javier Garcia, general manager of Kallpa, a Peruvian subsidiary of Inkia Energy, told Peru’s Andina news agency that the company hopes to bring the project on line in 2012. He did not disclose the project location because Kallpa is in the process of obtaining a concession for the site.

We have already invested US$250,000 in the mentioned studies preparation, and next year we plan to invest almost US$2 million in feasibility studies of the project, Garcia said.

Garcia estimated the project would require an investment of from US$450 million to US$500 million.
