DR Congo seeks engineers, economist for water, power program

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is recruiting two civil engineers and an economist for its project to develop electricity markets for domestic use and export. Expressions of interest in two solicitations are due August 17.

The Ministere des Ressources Hydrauliques et Electricite is recruiting the engineers and economist to advise its technical support unit, Cellule d’Appui Technique (CATE). DRC is developing its Congo River hydroelectric resources, including refurbishment of the 350-MW Inga 1 and 1,424-MW Inga 2 hydroelectric projects and development of the proposed 4,300-MW Inga 3 project.

The two civil engineers are to be in charge of management, monitoring, and implementation of: the project to develop electricity markets for domestic use and export, Projet de Developpement des Marches d’Electricite pour la Consommation Domestique et a l’Export (PMEDE); and the hydropower-based Southern Africa Power Market Project (SAPMP).

They also are to manage, monitor, evaluate, and implement various projects of the water and electricity sector, including preparation of large projects such as Inga 3, plus development of feasibility studies and regulation of the sector.

The economist is to be in charge of energy planning for sustainable development in the short, medium, and long terms. Work is to include monitoring of Inga site development studies as well as monitoring of the implementation of projects in the electricity sector and their effects on national economic activity and the extension of electricity and drinking water to the people.
