The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) seeks bids in three solicitations for rehabilitation work at the 350-MW Inga 1 and 1,424-MW Inga 2 hydroelectric projects on the Congo River. Bids are due July 15.
With World Bank financing of US$178 million, DRC’s utility, Societe Nationale d’Electricite (SNEL), seeks to develop electricity for domestic consumption and for export. (HydroWorld 1/28/10) Currently, Inga 1 and 2 produce a total of only 500 MW and are undergoing refurbishment. (HydroWorld 4/20/09) They are the keystone of a proposal by DRC and its neighbors to invest up to US$40 billion to expand the Inga complex to a target capacity of 40,000 MW. (HydroWorld 8/13/09)
SNEL and the Bureau Central de Coordination (BCECO) invite bids in three solicitations for Inga 1 and 2:

o Contract M20, AOI/272/PMEDE/SNEL/BCECO/DPM/NZ/2010/MT – Rehabilitation of Drainage Systems.
Each solicitation calls for a turnkey contract for study, manufacture and testing of equipment, transport, assembly and testing on site, and commissioning.
