Duke Energy Indiana Inc. seeks bids to supply power from renewable energy sources, including low-impact hydropower and incremental improvements to large-scale hydro. Notices of intent to bid are due Nov. 15, followed by proposals Jan. 15, 2008.
The Oct. 24 solicitation seeks up to 200 MW from renewable sources by 2011. Low-impact hydropower must be certified by the Low Impact Hydropower Institute. (HNN 10/24/07)
Duke Energy Indiana previously issued a separate general request for proposals for up to 800 MW of peaking and intermediate generation starting in 2008 or 2009; that request did not focus exclusively on renewable power. Other Duke Energy companies have called for proposals that could involve renewables, including Duke Energy Ohio (HNN 9/12/07) and Duke Energy Carolinas (HNN 4/24/07).
In the new solicitation, Duke Energy Indiana said it is interested in purchased power agreements, buying a generating facility, or purchased power agreements with an option to buy the facility.
A copy of the request for proposals can be obtained from the Internet at www.duke-energy.com/environment/indiana-rfp.asp.
Only bidders submitting a notice of intent to bid by Nov. 15 will be eligible to submit a final proposal. Proposals are due by Jan. 15, 2008. An initial short list of proposals is to be determined by March 21, 2008. The company plans to submit negotiated agreements for regulatory approval by Dec. 31, 2008.
