Ecuador seeks studies of six hydro projects totaling 45.13 MW

QUITO, Ecuador 3/20/12 (PennWell) — Ecuador’s investment institute invites expressions of interest from consultants to study and design six small hydroelectric projects totaling 45.13 MW. Responses are due April 3.

Ecuador’s Instituto Nacional de Preinversion (INP) recruited consultants in 2011 for similar studies of projects in Ecuador’s upper Guayllabamba River Basin. The agency also called for consultants in February to perform feasibility studies of the Tumbabiro multi-purpose project.

INP now seeks consultants to perform feasibility studies and final design of the six small projects in five provinces. Based on existing pre-feasibility studies, consultants are to advance the projects in order to develop documents necessary for construction tendering. The work is to take about 14 months with a budget of US$3.2 million.

The six projects are:
o 4.99-MW Chinambi, Chinambi River, Carchi Province;
o 9.27-MW San Mateo, Oyacachi River, Napo Province;
o 4.31-MW Sardinas, Sardinas River, Napo Province;
o 7.25-MW Chanchan, Chanchan River, Chimborazo Province;
o 9.32-MW Infiernillos, Paquishapa River, Loja Province; and
o 9.99-MW Rayo 1, Toachi Grande River, Cotopaxi Province.

Expressions of interest are to include information requested on a form available at the INP Internet site, www.preinversion.gob.ec, under Expresiones de Interes. INP plans to invite a short-list of bidders to submit proposals.

Responses are due by mail or e-mail by 3 p.m. April 3. For information, contact Instituto Nacional de Preinversion del Ecuador, Comision Tecnica – Programa Pequenas y Medianas Centrales, Av.
