El Salvador awards basin, dam studies to Spain firm

El Salvador utility Comision Ejecutiva Hidroelectrica del Rio Lempa (CEL) has awarded a contract to a Spanish engineering and construction firm for studies in the Rio Lempa Basin including structural analysis of four dams.

CEL signed a contract September 22 with SOCOIN Ingenieria y Construccion Industrial of Spain to perform the work through August 2010. The utility took bids for the work in April. (HNN 3/28/08)

SOCOIN is to carry out hydrologic studies of the Rio Lempa Basin and structural analyses of the dams of the 19.8-MW Guajoyo, 172.8-MW Cerron Grande, 180-MW Quince de Septiembre, and 99.4-MW Cinco de Noviembre hydroelectric projects. (HNN 6/10/08)
