El Salvador seeks micro-hydro unit for 99.4-MW Cinco de Noviembre

El Salvador utility Comision Ejecutiva Hidroelectrica del Rio Lempa (CEL) seeks bids to install a micro-hydropower turbine-generator at the 99.4-MW Cinco de Noviembre hydroelectric project on the Rio Lempa. Bids are due May 30.

CEL recently began steps to win approval to sell carbon emissions credits for the addition of a 600-kW replacement micro-hydro unit at Cinco de Noviembre. (HNN 3/10/08) It said the micro-hydro unit would replace a defunct unit originally installed in 1954 and would displace about 2,223 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

CEL also has called for bids by April 16 for structural analyses of four dams including Cinco de Noviembre. (HNN 3/28/08)

Bid documents for the current solicitation may be obtained until April 18 from the address below for US$130 plus 13 percent tax payable to Departamento de Tesoreria de CEL. A tender notice is on the CEL Internet site, www.cel.gob.sv.

Bids are due by 2 p.m. May 30. For information, contact Departamento de Licitaciones, 9a Calle Poniente No. 950, Centro de Gobierno, San Salvador, El Salvador; (503) 2211-6149; Fax: (503) 2211-6243; Internet: www.cel.gob.sv.
