EPE hopes for six hydropower projects in Brazil’s December A-5 auction

Brazil’s federal energy planning company, Empresa de Pesquisa Energetica (EPE), hopes to include 1.2 GW-worth of hydroelectric projects in its December A-5 power auction, HydroWorld.com has learned.

Already approved for the Dec. 13, 2013 auction is the 145-MW Itaocara hydropower plant, though five others — including the 700-MW Sao Manoel, 113-MW Goncalves, 93-MW Foz do Piriqui, 87-MW Ercilandia and 68-MW Cachoeira — could be up for bidding assuming developers obtain the necessary licenses.

The December A-5 auction will be Brazil’s second this year. HydroWorld.com previously reported that the country held its first auction in August.
