The Philippine Department of Energy has declared seven hydropower projects in the country’s Western Visayas region as being commercially feasible.
The announcement will allow Century Peak Energy Corporation to continue with their development which, if completed, could eventually add about 29 MW to the country’s grids.
Planned are two cascade systems of small hydropower projects.
The 4.5-MW Maninila Lower, 3.1-MW Maninila Upper, 3.3-MW Sibalom Lower, 4-MW Sibalom Middle and 4.2-MW Sibalom Lower will be located near San Remigio.
The other two projects — the 3-MW Hilabangan Lower and 4.8-MW Hilabangan Upper — will be located in Kabankalan City.
Century Peak Energy is a Chinese/Filipino partnership. HydroWorld.com reported in July that the Philippines Renewable Energy Management Board (REMB) had approved the 5.1-MW Ibgulo plant, which will be constructed by Century Peak Energy.
