First unit of Mazar hydro project in Ecuador to enter service

Commercial operations of the first unit of Ecuadorian state generator Hidropaute’s 160-MW Mazar hydropower project in Azuay province are set to begin, wire services reported.

The US$400 million hydro project’s civil works are nearly complete, as is the installation of the electromechanical equipment, according to wire reports.

A consortium comprised of Impregilo and Herdoiza Crespo is the plant’s contractor.

Hidropaute is part of state power generation holding company Corporacion Electrica del Ecuador (Celec).
